Adoption tax credit is in play, and I always think it’s pretty awesome. My parents had eight children, so I don’t think adoption was ever on the table, but I have a number of clients that have adopted children.

And there’s also a credit that you can get, and it can be carried forward up to five years. It may not all be refundable, in fact, very little is it now, but it is still something that can go towards paying your taxes.

So if you have adopted a child, then you might want to think about making sure that you’ve gotten all the documentation and you must have a Social Security number for that child. Otherwise, we are not able to report them on the tax return.
